About Judge Lynn McLaughlin Murray
Biography
The Honorable Judge Lynn McLaughlin-Murray was appointedby Governor Ted Strickland on January 5, 2011 to the Cleveland Municipal Court bench. She served as a Magistrate with Cleveland Municipal Court from 1999 until her elevation to the bench.
Judge McLaughlin-Murray served as an Assistant Director of Law for the City of Cleveland Tax Division and as staff counsel for the Central Collection Agency. She previously served as an Assistant Prosecutor for the City of Cleveland.
Judge McLaughlin-Murray is a 1986 graduate of Baldwin-Wallace College and a 1989 graduate of Case Western Reserve School of Law. She served as a Greek Life Assistant while in law school and was Acting Greek Life Director from June 1988 until November 1988.
Judge McLaughlin-Murray is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th District, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio and the United States Bankruptcy Court Northern District of Ohio.
Judge McLaughlin-Murray is a member of the American Bar Association, Ohio State Bar, Cleveland Metropolitan Bar, and Ohio Association of Magistrates.
Judge McLaughlin-Murray is a member of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Certified Grievance Committee, a past chair of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Certified Grievance Committee and General Tax Committee. She has taught for the Cleveland and Cuyahoga Bars, the Ohio Judicial College and the Cleveland Tax Institute.
Judge McLaughlin-Murray volunteers as the Chapter Advisor for Alpha Phi Fraternity at Baldwin-Wallace College, serves on the Alumni council for Baldwin-Wallace College, and also volunteers for Urban Community School, Merrick House, and Tremont West Development Corporation, where she serves on the Board of Directors and is the Treasurer of Tremont West. She also helps organize the Arts in August program in Lincoln Park. She lives in Tremont with her husband Glenn and children Abigail and Andrew.

- Presided over multiple civil jury trials
- Presided over hundreds of civil and criminal bench trials
- Presided over a variety of dockets including arraignment, criminal traffic, small claims, garnishments, defaults
- Serve as the Librarian for the court
CITY OF CLEVELAND
Assistant Director of Law-Taxation 1993-1999
- Served as in-house counsel for one of the largest municipal tax collection organizations in the State of Ohio
- Prosecuted businesses and individuals for failure to file and pay taxes
- Advised the Tax Administrator and the agency on legal issues
- Supervised the legal and Compliance departments
- Managed civil, criminal, and Bankruptcy dockets
Assistant Prosecutor 1989-1993
- Prosecuted criminal cases including Driving Under the Influence, Domestic Violence, Vehicular Homicide jury trials
- First chair for over 25 jury trials, numerous appellate briefs before the Eighth District Court of Appeals
- Special projects include establishing procedures to implement the 1993 DUI law including training for prosecutors and the Cleveland Police Department
